Like The Neighbourhood, Ko Ko are another LA band causing quite a stir at the moment, and the hype is completely justified based on the songs online at the moment.
Here’s So Strange:
Made up of brothersĀ Ryan and Taylor Lawhorn, we can expect big things. Like most of the artists featured on here at the moment, they have a proper summery feel to them, especially So Strange which you just heard, and the brilliant Float:
And here’s Intermission:
Pretty good, huh?
Keep an eye on them, but I don’t need to tell you that. Anyways, back to listening to Great Escape bands…
I like bands from LA. I like all-girl bands from LA even more. I like all-girl bands from LA that make good music even more! Haim are an all-girl band from LA that make good music. Oh, and their sisters.
Their playing at SXSW at the moment and are surely one of that bands that will have A&R’s falling over their chequebooks to sign them.
I suppose you could call them the US version of The Staves, the amazing girl group, signed to Atlantic, made up of 3 sisters. But that’s where the similarities end.
The Staves are from Watford, Haim are from LA. The Staves play folk-y pop music, Haim make alternative pop music. Both groups use their voices to create amazing harmonies and both write great songs.
In the last 12 months Haim have supportedĀ Julian Casablancas, No Age, The Bird and the Bee, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Chief and The Henry Clay People among others, so it’s only a matter of time before they get picked up.
Here’s their song Forever:
If you’re lucky enough to be at SXSW make sure you go check them out. They’re playing at the Karima Lounge tomorrow at 8pm.
