Rae Morris

So I saw Rae Morris at Hoxton Bar and Kitchen last night, and she really blew me away. If it’s possible her voice sounds even better live that it does on recordings, and the whole crowd was captivated by her. My highlights were Walls, Oldest Of New and Day One, but it all honesty, all her songs are amazing. Felt privileged to see her in such an intimate venue, as I’m sure she’ll be playing much bigger venues in the near future. Here’s her song, Oldest Of New.

Look, Stranger & Alt-J

First heard Look, Stranger a few months ago, and met the lads a couple of times. They put out a free EP called ‘If You’re Listening’ and most recently, a free single called ‘Kept It Alive’, and they really have got some cracking songs.

Although I’ve followed the band on blogs for a while, the first time I saw them live was at Electricity Showrooms, and you could see the crowd loved it – their songs, a mix between chilled, almost lounge-y dance music, a proper indie dance-pop, with catchy vocal melodies from Tim, grooving bass lines from Ali, slick guitar riffs from David, and great beats (yeah, beats blud!) provided by percussionist Thom. Here’s their song, If You’re Listening:

They’re playing at Hoxton Bar & Kitchen tomorrow night, and I really recommend you get down there, especially now it’s been announced that Alt-J are doing a DJ set afterwards. First met Alt-J about a year ago (when they were called Films) and since then they’ve grown in popularity and have got some great online exposure, as well as recently doing a Maida Vale session. Here’s their song Breezeblocks:

If you can get down to Hoxton tomorrow night then I strongly recommend it – really cool music and 2 sets of great lads, both bands have got very strong futures.
