Hella Better Dancer have a great name. I know I keep going on about band names, but it really does matter. Anyway, Hella Better Dancer – great name, great band, great songs.
They formed in 2009, and just a year later signed to Roundhouse Records (the in-house record label for the Camden based venue). They started off as more of a folk-y band, but they’ve now incorporated more eclectic rhythms and ‘shoegaze guitar’ into their songs. Their songwriting is top quality and they sing beautiful harmonies.
They recently released an EP called Living Room – it was released via bandcamp, and featured 4 songs, clocking in at just over 10 minutes. Short and sweet. The EP was completely self-recorded and produced at their homes (or just one home, but I’m not sure which members home…)
The stand out track for me is Brother, which can be seen/heard below:
I don’t normally criticise bands on here. I only write about music I love, music I’m passionate about and music I want to do well. But I have a small criticism of Hella Better Dancer. Their song Brother should be longer. It only lasts 1 minute 43 seconds, which isn’t long enough. So Hella Better Dancer, if you’re reading this: please do an extended version of Brother, even if it’s just more, thanks.

The band are currently back in the studio recording new songs for another bandcamp release in April. They’re also playing a few London shows in the next couple of months, notably The Lock Tavern on 22 April and 93 Feet East on 16 June.
